Welkom in de wereld van de Blue Iguana nachtclub. Onder de gedimde lichten en goedkope glitter geven de strippers zich iedere avond over aan de wensen van hun opgewonden toeschouwers. Voor de exotische danseressen heeft de dagelijkse show van sensueel prikkelende entertainment een schaduwzijde die zich alleen achter de schermen openbaart. Als de lichten dimmen en de muziek stopt, stappen ze terug in de harde realitiet van drugs, geweld en ellende. Zo wil de populaire maar naîeve Angel ( Daryl Hannah) haar leven beteren, wil de zwangere en dominante Jo ( Jennifer Tilly) een abortus, heeft de verleidelijke maar minderjarige Jessie ( Charlotte Ayanna) te kampen met een hardhandige vriendje en probeert Stormy ( Sheila Kelley) zich los te rukken van haar grote liefde: haar broer. De enige uitlaatklep die de vrouwen hebben, is zich helemaal te geven op het podium van de Bleu Iguana. De wereld veranderen kunnen ze immers niet.
